Fitting a Sum of Exponentials to Numerical Data

چکیده
A finite sum of exponential functions may be expressed by a linear combination of powers of the independent variable and by successive integrals of the sum. This is proved for the general case and the connection between the parameters in the sum and the coefficients in the linear combination is highlighted. The fitting of exponential functions to a given dataset is therefore reduced to a multilinear approximation procedure. The results of this approximation do not only provide the necessary information to compute the factors in the exponents and the weights of the exponential terms but also they are used to estimate the errors in the factors.

Sum-of-Exponentials Modeling and Common Dynamics Estimation Using Tensorlab
Fitting a signal to a sum-of-exponentials model is a basic problem in signal processing. It can be posed and solved as a Hankel structured low-rank matrix approximation problem. Subsequently, local optimization, subspace, and convex relaxation methods can be used for the numerical solution. In this paper, we show another approach, based on the recently proposed concept of structured data fusion...
متن کاملCorrection: Fast and Accurate Fitting and Filtering of Noisy Exponentials in Legendre Space
The parameters of experimentally obtained exponentials are usually found by least-squares fitting methods. Essentially, this is done by minimizing the mean squares sum of the differences between the data, most often a function of time, and a parameter-defined model function. Here we delineate a novel method where the noisy data are represented and analyzed in the space of Legendre polynomials. ...
متن کاملClustering Time Series Gene Expression Data Based on Sum-of-Exponentials Fitting
This paper presents a method based on fitting a sum-of-exponentials model to the nonuniformly sampled data, for clustering the time series of gene expression data. The structure of the model is estimated by using the minimum description length (MDL) principle for nonlinear regression, in a new form, incorporating a normalized maximum-likelihood (NML) model for a subset of the parameters. The pe...
متن کاملParameter estimation for multivariate exponential sums
The recovery of signal parameters from noisy sampled data is an essential problem in digital signal processing. In this paper, we discuss the numerical solution of the following parameter estimation problem. Let h0 be a multivariate exponential sum, i.e., h0 is a finite linear combination of complex exponentials with distinct frequency vectors. Determine all parameters of h0, i.e., all frequenc...
متن کاملA rapid method for determining kinetic parameters of enzymes exhibiting nonlinear thermal inactivation behavior.
A rapid method is developed to analyze the kinetics of thermal inactivation of enzymes that exhibit a nonlinear biphasic log(activity)-time relationship. Thermal destruction experiments on alcohol dehydrogenase from baker's yeast demonstrate the applicability of the method. The method is based on physical considerations (as opposed to mathematical curve fitting/regression methods) and also serv...
